These galleries illustrate the progression of the so-called ‘flyback’ generator used in this investigation. Starting in 2018 with an ‘Aspden/Adams’ motor format (see patent here), to establish a working prototype, this has evolved into a more flexible system capable of testing a wide range of factors and of producing inductively generated pulses of up to 4.5kV, where required. This can be used in conjunction with a ‘cap dump’ unit to deliver high-intensity capacitive discharges to find the optimum balance of parameters for effective IPC.
